Which all units did I prepare for CSIR JRF Life Science exam to qualify the exam in 1st attempt?

Hello!

Welcome again..
Today we will discuss about CSIR NET JRF Life Science examination! Specifically about the units to be studied...

Many students have been asking me about this since months. So here we are!
Let's begin.

SYLLABUS OF CSIR (LIFE SCIENCE)

Syllabus of CSIR (Life Science) has total of 13 units..
Listed as-

1 - Molecules and their Interaction Relevant to Biology
2 - Cellular Organization
3 - Fundamental Processes
4 - Cell Communication and Cell Signaling
5 - Developmental Biology
6 - System Physiology – Plant
7 - System Physiology – Animal
8 - Inheritance Biology
9 - Diversity of  Life Forms
10 - Ecological Principles
11 - Evolution and Behavior
12 - Applied Biology
13 - Methods in Biology

BUT! Should you do all the 13 units? If I say YES! Can you? NO! right?
and hence, the time you have to prepare for the exam is to be utilized smartly so as to make the best use of it.
For that, you need to choose certain units as your top priorities and have to be clear about which units you won't be investing your time in.
#SmartLearning >>>>

Units I prepared for CSIR Life Science exam

Note - None of the units that you will prepare can be covered 100%. You need to filter out and ignore the topics which have not been asked frequently or are yet not asked at all in the previous exams.

I prepared for 9 units very nicely (obviously I let go the not so important topics of these units also).

These 9 units were-
1) Cellular Organization (Cell Biology)
2) Fundamental Processes (Molecular Biology)
3) Inheritance Biology (Genetics)
4) System Physiology – Plant
5) Developmental biology
6) Cell Signaling (Not the Immunology part)
7) Methods in Biology (Techniques)
8) Evolution and Behavior
9) Ecological Principles

Units I didn't prepare for CSIR Life Science exam

Some units that I felt I shouldn't go for or the ones I tried giving a shot but turned out that it is taking hell lot of time and I can't invest that much in just 1 unit, I have listed them here!

System Physiology – Animal
Molecules and their Interaction Relevant to Biology
Immunology
Diversity of  Life Forms
Applied Biology

But But But
Out if these units, I had covered some topics which were important to the extent that atleast one question is framed every year from that topic.
Example - Human physiology - respiration
Also, I have a Zoology background and hence I had knowledge about diversity of life forms (animals) so that got me 1 or 2 questions in exam. But I didn't study the unit as such for the exam. It was just my BSc and MSc studies that helped.
Applied biology unit I covered entirely but then when I solved the PYQs, I wasn't able to. Hence, I didn't revise it even for once. So, i am considering this as the unit I didn't prepare for.

So, yea! that was it.
I hope that helped.

How Did I prepare For UGC NET EVS in 17 Days and Qualified the Exam in 1st attempt..!!

HEY AGAIN...

Are u planning to prepare for UGC NET exam?
Well then you are at the right place.

Here in this blog, I will be sharing with you my 17 days study plan for UGC NET.
BUT BUT BUT
Before that let me tell you some things about me...

I am Manisha Chauhan currently doing PhD from IIT DELHI.
I have been a Zoology student (did my MSc and BSc in Zoology)
I appeared for my first attempt of UGC NET exam in November 2021 and qualified it for LS.

I am not of EVS background and appeared for this exam just for a backup thing.
My main target was CSIR JRF Life Sciences.

So now, let us get started... and discuss how I planned and studied for this exam.

Books I referred to?????
NONE
I didn't refer books for my preparation.
I rather studied from videos...

WHICH VIDEOS????
wait wait
will tell u that also.

BUT for now let us see....

... What Units Did I target????
Instead of targetting entire syllabus, I filtered what I need to study.
#SmartLearning !

Out of 10 units (as per syllabus), the units (or topics) I targeted were as follows-

Unit-I: Fundamentals of Environmental Sciences
Unit-III: Environmental Biology
Unit-IV: Environmental Geosciences
Unit-VI: Environmental Pollution and Control (Air Pollution, Noise Pollution, Water Pollution & Soil Pollution)
Unit-VII: Solid and Hazardous Waste Management
Unit-VIII: Environmental Assessment, Management and Legislation
Unit-IX: Statistical Approaches and Modelling in Environmental Sciences

... Did I practice PYQs????
Yes! Ofcourse!
But only of past 3 years...

Are Questions repeated?
NOPE!
Only the concept is repeated, and some numerical have similar approach to the ones asked before.
Other than that, all is new.

Now let us talk about the videos I mentioned earlier...

\\ MY  STUDY  MATERIAL //

Well!
It's Jyoti Bala ma'am (Unacademy educator)
She launched this quick revision series on unacademy
and guess what!
ALL were FREE sessions...

Yes! unacademy allows educators to take some free sessions as well.. called SPECIAL CLASSES!
Jyoti Bala ma'am arranged revision series for students and I took the advantage of it. Nothing other than what she taught I studied.

Good things about her videos-
- Hindi language (I am comfortable with this language more than any other)
- Detailed explanation of all important topics
- All PYQs were covered in her videos (after each unit)
- Elimination of less important topics
- Regularity in taking classes
- Motivational approach
etc. etc.

Covering what she is teaching is more than enough for scoring really good in Section B of UGC NET Environmental Sciences Exam.

So that was it, Do let me know what else info u need and I will update here!
